Movement Screening

What is a movement Screen?

A movement screen assess movement competency.

Each new athlete that walks through the doors at StrengthFarm initially performs a movement screen.

We use this as a means of indicating:

·      How mobile your joints are.

·      How well you can control your movements.

·      Any asymmetries (one side being stronger than the other).

As coaches, we then use this information to interpret your strengths and weakness. This allows us to be accurate when designing individual programmes for performance enhancement.

What to expect?

Here at StrengthFarm we use Gray Cook’s Functional Movement Screen (FMS). The FMS uses seven tests to gauge an understanding of mobility, stability and movement. Check out the photos above for examples of all seven movements.

We also incorporate velocity-based testing too to mimic speed of movement in sport. The majority of sporting actions are dynamic in nature and are performed at high speed. We use these tests to highlight any areas that could be enhanced to reduce injury risk. See photos below for examples of countermovement jumps, depth jump and squat jumps.
